Opinions on the role of guns

Although there are various oppinions towards guns, I believe that the majority of the people, both in Japan and America would oppose citizens to hold guns.

One man named Dan Gross claimed that what's important is to keep all guns away from certain people, not to keep certain guns away from all people.(https://www.ted.com/talks/dan_gross_why_gun_violence_can_t_be_our_new_normal/transcript?language=en)

He also mentioned about the Brady background check, that 90% of Americans support expanding Brady background checks to all gun sales; including 90% of Republicans, more than 80% of gun owners, more than 70% of NRA members.

There were also oppinions from USA Today, that there wouldn't be any gun control laws that would prevent evil people from enacting their plans.

As you can see, the American gun control laws are strongly opposed by the citizens, and the problem may not be something that people call contravercial.

Opnions on the role of guns

There are opnions that suggest guns play a part in preventing crimes from happenning.

You might have heard of more guns less crime, the book written by John Lott who is an economist himself. He has been studying on the role of guns years.

His researches claimed that
Criminals are deterred by higher penalties. Just as higher arrest and conviction rates deter crime, so does the risk that someone committing a crime will confront someone able to defend him or herself. There is a strong negative relationship between the number of law-abiding citizens with permits and the crime rate—as more people obtain permits there is a greater decline in violent crime rates. For each additional year that a concealed handgun law is in effect the murder rate declines by 3 percent, rape by 2 percent, and robberies by over 2 percent.
He also said there is no evidence that increasing the number of concealed handguns increases accidental shootings. If the government let more people carrying guns, as a matter of fact. there will be less crime since people will think twice before they actcually commit a gun crime because of the fear of reprecussion. The more guns being carried means bigger possibility of being shot by guns. It sounds worse but John Lott suggests that the fear of getting shot will prevent criminals from shooting. When you realize anyone could carry a gun, you will hesitate to attack random people because of the reprecussion.

What we currently know about gun controls

Hello! Thank you for visiting our blog!

In this blog we will be talking about gun controls from various points of views.

It all began since were curious about the gun control policies in both America and Japan. The more we investigated about it, the more we got interested into the topic.

So far these are what we know about the gun control policies:

Japan: Japanese people generally have a negative view towards guns and the majority of the Japanese population disagrees about citizens holding guns.

America: On the other hand, in America, this idea becomes controversial since there are many uses of guns, such as hunting, sports, and also self-defense.

In Japan, there is no need for guns in our daily-life other than to prevent crime, so we believe that would be the main reason why the Japanese citizens have a negative idea towards guns. On the other hand, in America many people use guns as their hobby and also to defend themselves, which leds citizens to become armed. This may be why there are many crimes in America that involves guns.

So far this is what we think about gun controls, and we hope the readers find the topic interesting!
